Effective 1/14/14 Geisler Library will not be accepting book gifts or book donations. This policy will be in effect for the spring 2014 semester and until further notice. There are a number of local organizations that accept book donations. If organizational contact information is needed, please call the circulation desk at 628-5219.
About Course Reserve Materials for Students
Your prof told you that your reading assignment for next class is "on reserve" in the Library. What does that mean?
"Reserves" are simply items that have been set aside for use by your class. Examples can include chapters from a book you are assigned to read, a DVD you are assigned to watch, the script of a play, a music recording, etc. In other words, these are course materials that go above and beyond the books you were required to buy for the class but which are still required.
How do you locate Reserve materials?
Reserve materials can be checked out from the Circulation Desk - just tell us the name of your class and the title of the item (usually found in your course syllabus). Even if you're just going to make a quick scan or photocopy, you still need to bring your ID card and officially check things out.
How long can you keep Reserve materials?
Items on Reserve have very short loan periods and are not renewable. Overdue fines will be applied if items aren't returned on time! Loan periods vary depending on the item. Most Reserves check out for just 2 or 3 hours.
To make sure you don't accrue any overdue fines ($1.00 per hour - ouch!), please return Reserves to the Circulation Desk in the Library rather than returning them to the book drops on the ground floor.
